I thought I’d share with you the delights of our local eatery, the authentic 50’s American diner, which turns out is the largest original American diner in the UK! We’re so lucky to have something so quirky and unique on our doorstep and I’m excited that we finally got to go there after driving past day after day and talking about it.
While the sun was out on Sunday, the Gingerbeard Man and I decided to make the most of the sunshine and take a walk around our local lake, and finally pay a visit to the diner. Once we’d soaked up the rays and fresh air we took our empty bellies back to the diner. The atmosphere was lively, without being loud and annoying . It seems like a place that everyone can enjoy from families, girls having a gossip to a pair of bikers stopping for a frothy coffee! Even the authentically dressed staff appeared to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, with the manager singing along to Little Richard’s ‘Good Gollie Miss Molly’ as it played in the background.
My favourite part of the diner is the décor; there’s so much to look at and I love the attention to detail with everything from 50’s adverts, fridge magnets, videos on the TV screen to books on 50’s culture for diners to enjoy dotted around the diner. It’s like you’ve stepped back in time…
We perused the menu for what seemed like hours trying to decide what to have. We both agreed that we’d definitely be back to try a few more meals from the menu, but stuck with our original choices of a hot diggity chilli dog for me and a not very American fish and chips for the Gingerbeard Man. We also ordered some BBQ wings to curb our grumbling tummies while we awaited our main meals.
I’d have to say that while the food wasn’t of Michelin star quality and most definitely highly fattening we enjoyed it and the portions were more than enough as you can see from the photos. The diner has the perfect combination of music, atmosphere, divine milkshakes and quality customer service; I think it’s safe to say that the Gingerbeard Man and I will be returning in the near future!
